Drew A

Memoriam Warriors

Drew is a 32-yr-old young man who is a 5 year survivor of metastatic anaplastic ependymoma, a rare spinal cord cancer. The last 2 years have been the most challenging of his life. In 2011, he survived an intense spinal surgery with full craniospinal radiation and had to re-learn how to walk. Then, in the past 2 years he has had to endure another spinal surgery, 8 different chemotherapies and 2 rounds of palliative radiation. All of which led him to lose the use of his legs, becoming a paraplegic.

Drew has gone from running half marathons and completing a sprint triathlon to after his first surgery to being completely wheelchair bound. For someone who loves the outdoors and exercise, this has been an extremely difficult experience to overcome. Drew and his wife used to hike, camp, and kayak regularly and have been unable to do what they love due to his cancer.

Drew’s treatment has not only been physically and emotionally draining, but financially depleting as well. His wife works as a secretary in the oncology department, picking up as much overtime as possible, but he has been unable to work for the past several months. Since they have been fighting this aggressive cancer for years, a trip together would be financially impossible on their own.

It would mean the world to him to spend time at Disney World, or another option on his LifeList , with the person who has been his caregiver, friend, and partner in adventure.

Drew’s Life List:

  1. BBQ in the park with friends
  2. Encouraging words and art from friends
  3. Disney world with spouse
  4. Spa Day with spouse
  5. Take dogs (Bamboo and willow) to vet for updated shots
