My journey started in March 2024 when I passed out from severe abdominal pain and my daughter had to call 911. We all rode up to the hospital that night, and they found a cyst on my ovary. I had surgery in June to remove the cyst and I got the crushing news that I had cancer when I went for my two-week post-op visit. From there, I was referred to my oncologist and had a radical hysterectomy surgery two weeks later. While recovering, I started experiencing shortness of breath and was admitted to the hospital with bilateral pulmonary embolisms. Thankfully those were able to be treated with blood thinners, but they caused severe hemorrhaging at one of my surgical sites and I was hospitalized again and received my third surgery. Following the surgery, I went on to start my chemotherapy in August. Chemo was very hard on me. My three kids went back to school a few days after my first dose and, as a single mom, it was hard to manage taking care of them and all the side effects that the chemo caused. I have now completed my rounds and am recovering from that. I have an appointment soon to find out what my next treatment step will be.
