I was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma on September 11, 2024 at the age of 20. After months of increasing pain in his right hip and leg, an MRI showed a 12 cm tumor in his femur, as well as a 5.5 cm tumor in the soft tissue next to the bone. Ewing’s Sarcoma is a fairly rare form of bone cancer, with only about 250 cases diagnosed per year in the United States. Prior to diagnosis, I was a college student and athlete, studying Criminal Justice and playing baseball.
I had my port placement surgery on September 26, 2024, and began my first chemotherapy treatment on September 27, 2024. The treatment for Ewing’s Sarcoma is aggressive and most of the chemotherapy infusions are done on an inpatient basis. Because of the intensive nature of treatment, I had to withdraw from school for the year to focus on treatment and recovery. The treatment required to save my life will effectively end my baseball career.
