I was diagnosed at age 38, in January of this year and had surgery in February. Less than one week later, my father passed away, but due to my surgery and recovery, I was not able to travel to be there with him or my family leading up to and after his death. That, on top of looking after my toddler, has been the toughest part about this journey. I began radiation in March and will continue daily treatments until mid-April. The other challenging thing for me has been that my mother died of cancer when I was in my early 20s, so I have a lot of anxiety knowing how easily cancer can recur and eventually take my life. Finally, as a result of my diagnosis, I was unable to renew my contract with my one paying client and had to forgo anticipated income.
