Navigating cancer treatment often leads to questions that go beyond prescriptions and scans: What should I be eating? Are these supplements safe? Can acupuncture help with my neuropathy? Integrative oncology is the evidence-based bridge between conventional cancer care and complementary therapies, focusing on treating the whole person alongside medical treatment.
In this “Ask the Expert” session, we are stripping away the myths and looking at the clinical data behind integrative health. This isn’t about replacing your medical team’s plan; it’s about enhancing it. We’ll explore how specific lifestyle interventions and complementary practices can help manage side effects, reduce inflammation, and improve your overall quality of life during and after treatment.
What You’ll Learn:
- Defining Integrative Oncology: Understanding the difference between “alternative” medicine and “integrative” medicine that works in tandem with your clinical care.
- Supplement & Treatment Safety: How to evaluate supplements and herbs to ensure they don’t interfere with the efficacy of chemotherapy, radiation, or immunotherapy.
- Managing Side Effects: Evidence-based complementary therapies (such as acupuncture, yoga, and oncology massage) for managing pain, nausea, and fatigue.
- Building Your Integrative Team: How to talk to your oncologist about incorporating complementary therapies into your survivorship care plan.
