Dear Jack,

I saw Andrew McMahon at Ithaca College back in 2005. I don’t think it was that long after we had heard about his cancer diagnosis.

When I received the call that I was a match for an 8-yr-old girl from Germany (I registered with Be The Match while at med school in 2006), there was no question at all what I would do.

I donated through the pelvis and throughout the process I thought of Andrew’s song “There, There Katie.” Although roles were drastically reversed, “Katie” became my recipient. I found a lot of solace in so many of his songs, new and past.

I have attached a picture I received from my recipient about 6 weeks after my donation. It is the most precious gift I have ever received.

Dear Jack Foundation Volunteer Robert Lorenzo received this drawing from the recipient of his bone marrow transplant

I look forward to continuing to help others by volunteering with Dear Jack in the future!

Best,
Robert Lorenzo
