I was diagnosed with leiomyosarcoma at age 31, when my son was not quite two years old. It was a shock — there was no family history of cancer at a young age, and I was living a healthy lifestyle. I learned quickly that cancer is unpredictable and can happen to anyone.
I’ve been through many treatments, including chemotherapy, radiation, interventional radiology treatments, and surgeries. I was initially Stage 3 but have been Stage 4 for the majority of my cancer journey. My oncologist encourages me to view my cancer as a chronic disease and to keep living. Right now, I am in a clinical trial for immunotherapy and travel to my treatment hospital weekly, while also being followed locally in my home state.
