Module Eight: Yoga for Treatment & Targeted Side Effects

On demand classes for module 8 are now available!

This module meets you at the post treatment phase of your cancer journey so well done!

There are feelings of relief combined with, “now what?” You may be  experiencing side effects such as limited range of motion, fatigue, digestive stress,  neuropathy, lymphedema and anxiety to name a few. These classes are not designed to cure  the conditions but the therapeutic movements combined with breathing correctly can alleviate  symptoms. First check with your medical practitioner about how much and what kind of  movement is okay. Also what should you avoid? Remember, honor your body and pay  attention to what feels right to you. If you feel pain, slow down and perhaps don’t proceed. If  you feel discomfort, breathe into it and practice meeting a challenge on the mat with your  breath.

Module Seven Class Offerings

Yoga for Post Treatment

This is a gentle, restorative yoga class. You are invited to check-in with yourself, soften and honor your body with Gratitude. We spend our time together in grounded poses either on our backs, sit bones or tabletop while learning how to navigate post treatment side effects. Always consult your medical practitioner first for clearance and consult yourself to be honest about contraindications.

Props: Pillow, Yoga Blocks (if you have them)

Yoga for Post Mastectomy

There is a dual focus for this class. Physically we learn functional movements to restore range of motion in the shoulders and chest while strengthening the back and core. There is also an invitation to connect with the heart space and the loss of something near and dear to the heart. It is suggested to take this class at least 4 – 6 weeks post treatment and to be gentle as you stimulate movement in tight areas. Always consult your medical practitioner first for clearance and consult yourself to be honest about contraindications.

Props: Bath Towel, Yoga Blocks (if you have them)

Yoga for Neuropathy

Neuropathy effects 30 – 40% of people post chemo. This practice will bring you into connection with your body to work through sensations and/or numbness in your fingers, hands, toes and feet. Always consult your medical practitioner first for clearance and consult yourself to be honest about contraindications.

Props: Tennis Ball (for rolling hands and feet)

Yoga for Lymphedema

Lymphedema is caused by a backlog of lymph that is waiting to be pumped through the system. This class focuses on using dynamic movement and breathwork to stimulate the flow of energy in your body which helps with moving lymph through the areas where lymph nodes clean waste (neck, armpit/axillary, groin, behind knee). Always consult your medical practitioner first for clearance and consult yourself to be honest about contraindications.
