I’m 21 years old and a senior in college. I started having issues with low platelets and hemoglobin at the end of May in 2021. I was hospitalized a few times to treat the low levels. When this continued to happen, it was recommended that I get a bone marrow biopsy in August of 2021. I was officially diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia on September 2nd, 2021, and admitted to the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin (Milwaukee).
Unfortunately, I also tested positive for COVID at the same time so I spent about a week and a half in the hospital in isolation while they ran more tests. Since then I have had two more bone marrow biopsies, two spinal lumbar punctures with chemotherapy drugs injected into the spinal fluid, and will be finishing the first 4 weeks of the induction phase of chemo treatment this week.
I will hopefully be getting my more permanent port in the next couple of weeks, once my immune system is in a better place.
