I was 15 when I was first diagnosed with leukemia, just prior to my sophomore year of high school. A week into treatment, the doctors discovered a rare invasive fungal infection in my sinuses and lungs. I underwent multiple sinus surgeries and other aggressive treatments. Leukemia treatments were put on hold to focus on the fungal infection. I ended up missing the entire school year but was able to go back and catch up with my class and graduate with them. In November of 2020, at the age of 20, my leukemia relapsed. I had a bone marrow transplant in April 2021, thanks to my younger brother Kevin, who was my donor. I am currently recovering, but am deconditioned and going through physical therapy.
