In July of 2022, at 33 years old, my world was rocked and I was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. I didn’t have any real symptoms until returning from a trip and my abdomen filled with fluid. Since then, I’ve been in chemotherapy treatment every other week. I know cancer can happen to anyone, and it does not discriminate, but I just didn’t ever think I would be in this position (naive thinking). I created a bucket list of things that I wanted to do after I was diagnosed and my husband has been incredible in trying to fill these bucket list items for me. I wouldn’t wish a cancer diagnosis on my worst enemy. This has been an eye opening experience, and my biggest goal has been to try to stay strong throughout this journey. I’m scared every day, and I am not afraid to admit that, but I know that my diagnosis has helped so many people in my life to go to the doctors and get screened which makes me feel so good. I still want to experience so many things, and I want to be able to have a family one day with my husband, but right now cancer is hindering me.
