Hello, my name is Kirwin. I am 36 years old and have been happily married to my wife Adriana since October of 2016. We have an amazing 18-month-old daughter Khalia, who we are currently adopting.  I was originally diagnosed with leukemia when I was 18 years old. I went through six years of chemotherapy and was finally in remission.

This October we would have been celebrating 13 years cancer-free but unfortunately, on May 18, 2021, I was rushed to the hospital after having constant nose bleeds and body aches. This was an ache that I haven’t felt since I was 18 years old. My biggest fears were confirmed when I was told that my leukemia was back and was more aggressive than the first time. I also had an Ommaya reservoir put into my head on June 4th.

I have been in the hospital pretty much since. During my last round of chemo, I developed an infection and a blood clot in my left arm. I had to undergo two surgical procedures to clean out the infection. After, one of the procedures I was moved to the ICU and was intubated due to having a hard time coming out of anesthesia. This round of chemo was supposed to be five days, but given the complications, I was inpatient for 21 days. I have more chemo to go and will need a bone marrow transplant.
