I am 31 years old and was diagnosed with stage 4 Hodgkin’s lymphoma in May of 2021 after coming down from a 3-day ski mountaineering trip in the North Cascades where I was unable to keep up with my climbing partners.
I went through primary treatment, and although originally responsive, the cancer was refractory and grew back. I switched to a second-line treatment which had the same results. Again switching treatment plans, I had a third-line treatment which was able to get me to a status of remission and qualified me for a stem cell transplant. I went through the transplant process starting in January of this year and was in the hospital for quite some time. Now that I am out of the hospital and recovering, I will go through another 16 rounds of maintenance chemo, and will hopefully get some good news with my next scan in a month.
