In February of 2019, just before I turned 32, I had my wisdom teeth removed. I had no problems really with that process. In July of 2019, after having some dental work done, I noticed it didn’t heal the same and realized that I’d been a bit fatigued lately. I was able to get a last-minute appointment to see my primary care doctor just two weeks before a planned Disney trip. My primary care doctor left a voicemail to head to the ER ASAP. We found out a few days later that I had been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, and we immediately started a treatment plan a few days later.
Unfortunately, I relapsed with AML in September of 2021, two years to the day of my initial diagnosis. I’m receiving treatment of FLAG – IDA, or as they call it “the relapse mix”. I feel very fortunate that my brother was found to be a half match for a stem cell transplant, as that’s what’s next once I’m in remission.
