Haley was a few weeks into her senior year of high school when she was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer. The cancer had spread from her colon to the surrounding lymph nodes and the bottom of her stomach lining. She was also diagnosed with familial adenomatous polyposis. She had a colonoscopy and an endoscopy and they found a tumor in her rectum, over 300 polyps in her colon, and hundreds in her stomach. She has been going back and forth to doctors for years with the same symptoms but because of her age and her unknown family history, her symptoms were brushed off.

Haley should be enjoying her last year of high school and doing all the fun activities that seniors do but instead, she is at home no longer able to attend school in person. She just got prepped for radiation and, after that, she will have four months of two different types of chemotherapy and then will have surgery to have her colon and rectum removed. For the rest of her life, she will have to have regular checkups as she is at a higher risk to develop other cancers. Things have never come easy for Haley, but this may be her toughest hurdle yet.
