My name is Dayna, and I am 26 years old. I was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia on July 7th of 2022. Previously that year I had welcomed my first child into this world, a beautiful baby boy. He was born on March 16th of 2022. I was so excited to be a mom and to enjoy my time with my husband and our new baby. Quickly after giving birth I started showing symptoms, however I convinced myself they were due to becoming a new parent. On the 4th of July we had some friends and family over and multiple people commented on my drastic weight loss (especially since I had just had a baby) and the extreme bruising. On July 5th, I went to the hospital because I almost passed out while picking my baby up and as a stay at home mom that was not acceptable. I figured they would tell me I had an iron deficiency or something like that. My baby was 3.5 months old when I got my diagnosis and my whole world shattered. All of my treatments are inpatient. I generally live in the hospital for a month and then get a week at home and then another month and so on. I have missed so much time with my family and this truly has been one of the hardest things I have done but I continue on for the sake of my boy.
