Last summer I was working full-time and working on getting my license, looking forward to gaining some independence and starting my 20’s. I started experiencing aching pains along with numerous other odd symptoms and went to the doctor, assuming nothing serious was wrong. After a few times of this (and it getting chalked up to nothing but “acute back pain” over and over) I started to become more worried. The early morning of June 13th, 2021, I was finally taken to Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis, and diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, or ALL. Within 12 hours my entire life felt like it was flipped upside down. I was admitted and started on steroids and chemotherapy immediately and was hospitalized for 28 long days. Finally, a few months ago I was deemed cancer free, in remission and started maintenance chemotherapy. I have to thank my amazing doctors and nurses, and most importantly my huge support system of family and friends – I truly couldn’t have done it without them. Lately I am working on strengthening my body and once again, gaining some independence. I’m feeling so much healthier physically AND mentally and am definitely a stronger woman because of this journey.
