My cancer journey started when I was 37 and discovered a lump in my breast while showering. A series of tests showed it was benign but in the coming months it would grow rapidly. It was removed for comfort and taken for pathology during a partial mastectomy. It ended up being a rare sarcoma called a malignant phyllodes tumor. I have even rarer, aggressive characteristics. Then I had a single mastectomy followed by 3 cycles of AIM chemo. Scans showed I was clear but roughly 45 days later a new lump showed up along my mastectomy scar. It was biopsied and confirmed to be a cancer recurrence. I flew to Duke to have a radical full thickness chest resection with ribs removed and reconstruction. A month after that surgery my CT scan showed I have two new highly suspicious lung nodules. My pulmonologist believes it’s lung metastasis due to the rapid growth and aggressiveness of my cancer.
