Katie Sullivan Poppert joined the Dear Jack team in early 2016. She was born and raised in Denver, Colorado, and received a B.A. in Biology from the Colorado College, followed by a BSN in nursing from Regis University. She is a certified oncology nurse and was involved in Cancer Care at Presbyterian/St. Luke’s hospital in Denver for over ten years.
Katie spent many hours volunteering for both The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and the Love Hope Strength Foundation, in addition to working full time as a nurse, always feeling the desire to do more for her patients. In 2011, Katie began her own cancer support community called “The Craic Addicts: Fighting Cancer with Laughter,” which quickly grew from just a few supporters to a few thousand, earning her the prestigious Nurse Nightingale Luminary Award for Patient Advocacy in 2013. In addition, Katie spends a week each summer serving as Camp Nurse for Camp Courage, a free camp for kids with cancer.
In 2013, Katie made the leap from the hospital floor to full-time non-profit work as the Vice President of Programs for Love Hope Strength, enlisting music fans to “get on the list” to become potential bone marrow donors, increasing awareness about the relative ease of the donation process, and putting faces to the patients in need of transplants.
She maintains her nursing skills by spending a few hours per month at an IV clinic, and enjoys spending her free time with her husband Todd and four children, ages 19, 17, 16, and 10.
