In partnership with USC Norris Cancer Center, join us at the beautiful Canary Hotel in Santa Barbara, CA for Dear Jack Foundation’s Breathe Now couple’s wellness retreat. Over the course of the four-day program, you’ll be surrounded by 5 other young adult couples who have gone through similar experiences with cancer as you and your partner. Dear Jack Foundation staff will guide you and your partner through four days of fun, intensive, and thoughtful programming to include yoga, meditation, hiking, and psychosocial breakout sessions. The goal over the course of the four days is to rediscover balance and connection in your relationship with your partner post cancer.
Breathe Now Retreat Participant Requirements:
Survivor was treated out of USC Norris Cancer Center.
Survivor and their partner are between the ages 21-39.
Survivor must be one to three years out from their last active cancer treatment. Treatments for chronic issues are ok.
The couple should be in a committed relationship and together throughout (from diagnosis through treatment).
The couple must be able to physically participate in activities (vinaysa yoga and hiking).
The couple should not be in a significant crisis in their partnership.
We ask that both members of the couple are vested in the process and willing to be open to new mindful experiences through yoga, meditation, and retreat breakout sessions.
We ask that participants are willing to share their stories and be respectful of others.
A Typical Day May Look Like:
7:00am – Vinyasa Yoga
8:00am – Group breakfast
9:30am – Breakout session
11:00am – Free time
12:00pm – Lunch
1:00pm – Group activity (cooking class, hiking, spa experience)
3:00pm – Breakout session
4:00pm – Free time
5:00pm – Restorative yoga/meditation
6:30pm – Group dinner
Free time is integrated throughout the day and evening. Schedules may vary.
Retreat registration for each couple is paid for by the Dear Jack Foundation to include programming, 3 meals per day, and accommodations. Participants are responsible for airfare, transportation to and from retreat venue, and expenses incurred during travel that are non-retreat related. Participant referrals are by Dear Jack referral hospitals only. All Breathe Now retreat programs have a focus on healthy nutrition. Retreats are suggested alcohol-free experiences.

About Andrea Gladstone – Retreat Psychologist:
Andrea Gladstone, PhD earned her doctorate in clinical psychology with an emphasis in health psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology. She practices with a particular focus on mind-body medicine and treating the whole person. With a background in a variety of hospital and clinic settings, Andrea’s focus has been on helping individuals cope with the mental and physical illnesses that have impacted their lives. She is passionate about incorporating mindfulness, meditation and hypnosis, and values based tools into her work. Andrea currently works as a psychologist in primary care and pediatrics at Kaiser Permanente in Colorado. In her spare time, you will find her doing yoga, dance, hiking (summer and winter), or experimenting in the kitchen..
About Diana Christinson – Retreat Yoga Instructor:
Diana will be co-facilitating the Breathe Now Santa Barbara retreat in June 2018 as our lead yoga instructor. Diana is the founder and Director of Pacific Ashtanga Yoga Shala in Dana Point, CA. She is one of an honored group of students who studied with and received certification to teach the first and second series of Ashtanga yoga by its founder, Shri K Pattabhi Jois, and his grandson, Sharat Rangaswamy, at the Ashtanga Yoga Institute in Mysore, India.
Diana lived in Asia for two years and began her yoga practice in Kyoto, Japan in 1987, which inspired her lifelong studies of Eastern Philosophy. She began teaching yoga in 1996, and in 1999, after practicing yoga for more than a decade, Diana took the first of 9 trips to India to study at the Ashtanga Yoga Institute.
She founded Pacific Ashtanga Yoga Shala in 2005.
With a Master’s degree in Psychology, and an appreciation for Eastern philosophies and meditation, Diana’s approach is anchored by her passion to inspire students to use their yoga practice to keep their mind and body healthy. Teaching with an understanding and refinement informed by her anatomical knowledge and keen sense of touch, she is committed to the importance of the student-teacher connection and focuses on helping each student create a practice that is distinctive to the individual.
